CINEMIEN is an independent film distributor that, for over 40 years, has combined professionalism, a passion for cinema, and a strong focus on emerging talent.

In the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and, since 2021, also in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Israel, we release films in theaters, on DVD/Blu-ray, video on demand, and on television. Our headquarters are located in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The German branch is located in Frankfurt am Main, in the heart of Germany. To better serve German-speaking Europe, the experienced teams at CINEMIEN and the German film distributor PRO-FUN MEDIA have joined forces to bring high-quality auteur cinema to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

CINEMIEN acquires films at major international film festivals (including the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlinale, the Venice International Film Festival, and the Locarno Film Festival), and film quality is central to its acquisition strategy. CINEMIEN has made several internationally acclaimed films available to the public and has given talented new filmmakers the opportunity to be seen by a wider audience. CINEMIEN has followed many of them throughout their careers.

In the Netherlands and Belgium, CINEMIEN has presented major titles such as Todd Haynes’s “Carol,” François Ozon’s “8 Women,” and Xavier Dolan’s “I Killed My Mother,” and has enjoyed great box office success with German productions such as Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s two-time Oscar® nominee “Never Look Back” and Nora Fingscheidt’s “System Crasher” (winner of the German Film Award and the European Film Award).

In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, CINEMIEN launches its program with Xavier Dolan’s “Matthias & Maxime,” which competed at Cannes, and “Charlatan,” by Oscar® nominee Agnieszka Holland.
